Mohammed al-Baldawi, spokesperson for the Sadiqun parliamentary bloc, said on Sunday that efforts are continuing inside Iraq’s parliament to move forward with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law.
Al-Baldawi revealed that a number of lawmakers have already signed in support of advancing the legislation, which is expected to help push the law toward a parliamentary vote.
He explained that passing the PMF law is considered an important step for organizing the work of the force and securing the rights of its members through a clear legal framework. According to him, the legislation would strengthen the institutional role of the PMF and define its responsibilities more clearly.
Al-Baldawi said the next phase involves completing the remaining legislative procedures and placing the bill on the agenda of the House of Representatives before it is put to a final vote.
He also called on political blocs and members of parliament to work together to finalize the law, stressing that it should not remain one of the unresolved issues in parliament.
According to al-Baldawi, approving the legislation would help regulate the PMF’s operations while ensuring that the rights and benefits of its members are legally protected.
