The director-general of the Middle Euphrates Electricity Production Company and one of the company’s employees have been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of accepting bribes.
The court also imposed a fine of 10 million Iraqi dinars on each of them. The bribery case involved payments that were allegedly accepted in exchange for releasing money owed to a contractor.
According to the Federal Commission of Integrity, the Central Criminal Court for Corruption issued the ruling in their absence after deciding that the evidence collected during the investigation was strong enough to support a conviction.
The sentences were issued under Resolution 160 of 1983. The commission had previously carried out a judicial warrant against the company’s director-general last month as part of the bribery investigation.
