A member of the Iraqi Elite and Conscious Competencies Gathering has accused the United States of controlling Iraq’s oil revenues and limiting its financial freedom.
Hussein Ali Jassim said Washington is using its influence to restrict how Iraq handles its money, especially when it comes to banking and international transfers.
He claimed that Iraq cannot freely deal with several countries because of pressure through the financial system. According to him, this is hurting the country’s economy.
Jassim also said the US is using these controls as a political tool—deciding where money can go and placing limits on foreign transfers, especially for trade and imports.
He added that Iraq still doesn’t have full control over its financial system. In his view, these actions mainly serve US interests, not Iraq’s economic needs.
