New data from the Association of European Gas Infrastructure Operators (AGEI) shows that Europe’s gas storage levels dropped sharply by the end of April.
Storage facilities are now about 32.73% full — the lowest level seen in the past five years.
To put that into perspective, storage was at 39.52% at the same time last year. It was much higher before that, reaching 62.44% in 2024 and 59.73% in 2023.
The only time levels were close to this low was in 2022, when they stood at 33.47%. That was during the energy crisis triggered by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In short, Europe is heading into a tighter situation again when it comes to gas reserves.
