On a Wednesday, I visited the Chase Bank and inquired, “Will you be exchanging foreign currency?” The teller confirmed that they would. I then asked, “How will you verify it?” She directed my attention to a machine nearby. Curious, I asked, “What is that?” She replied, “It’s a De La Rue machine.” I requested if she could verify some currency using the machine. She agreed without hesitation, mentioning that she had some dinar with her. On the small screen, I noticed that the Iraqi dinar was labeled as IQD. I instructed her to select that option. After she punched in the IQD, she placed the dinar at the top of the machine, ran it through, and it displayed the same amount I had given her earlier. I asked, “So, it verified the dinar?” She confirmed, “Yes, it’s all verified.” She returned the currency to me and pointed out that every teller had the new De La Rue machine in front of them. There were three machines, and one was located in the back. She mentioned that they had just received them. Interestingly, I was the first customer she had ever assisted with verifying foreign currency. The initial screen displayed various currency initials, but she had to navigate to the second screen to find the IQD.
