I travel frequently, and at every airport I visit, I make it a point to stop by the currency exchange counters to inquire, ‘Do you have any Iraqi dinar available for purchase?’ In Florida, I’ve only found two locations that offer them. I’m a loyal customer at these places. Just yesterday, I asked, ‘What methods do you use to verify the authenticity of the bills?’ The employee explained that they undergo several verification processes and indicated the De LaRue machines. I remarked, ‘That machine looks new…’ to which she replied, ‘Yes, that one is new, and the one over there is also new.’ I noticed an older machine set aside, and the employee informed me that these are sophisticated motorized multi-sensor counterfeit detectors, designed as bank-grade currency discriminators. They utilize a red light, infrared light, and a sensor that measures the density of the raised perforations on the bills. She mentioned that these machines are specifically designed for the Iraqi dinar and the Vietnamese dong. I discreetly took some photos; I can’t recall the exact time, but they are indeed new and were not present before.
