A high-level reconstruction and investment meeting was held in Baghdad to explore the capital’s future development plans and investment opportunities.

The meeting was organized by the French Iraqi Business Council (IFBC) and took place at the Baghdad Mayoralty headquarters, hosted by Baghdad Mayor Eng. Ammar Mousa Kadhim.

The delegation was headed by Eng. Adham Al Fakhar, Advisor to the Prime Minister, along with members of the IFBC. Participants discussed a range of long-term development projects that could be implemented through partnerships between the public and private sectors.

Key topics included improving urban services and infrastructure, introducing smart parking systems, developing recreational and entertainment facilities, expanding alternative road networks to ease traffic congestion, and launching waste recycling and environmental sustainability projects.

The meeting also explored plans for creating economic cities and modern business centers aimed at attracting investment, supporting economic growth, and generating new job opportunities.

Beyond infrastructure and investment, participants emphasized the importance of protecting Baghdad’s cultural and historical heritage. Discussions included a proposal to establish the “Baghdad Notables Salon,” which would be chaired by the Mayor of Baghdad and serve as a platform for preserving the city’s identity and heritage.

Attendees also reviewed initiatives to restore the historic names of Baghdad’s districts, neighborhoods, and streets as part of broader efforts to preserve the capital’s cultural character while supporting modernization and development.

The French Iraqi Business Council was formed following the Strategic Partnership Agreement between Iraq and France, signed by the Iraqi Prime Minister and the French President on January 26, 2023. The council aims to strengthen economic cooperation, encourage investment, and support development projects between the two countries.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts to attract local and international investment into Baghdad while balancing economic growth with the preservation of the city’s rich historical legacy.
