Luqman Hassan has called on the Iraqi government to expand its anti-corruption campaign to include the Kurdistan Region, arguing that investigations should cover all institutions and officials regardless of location or political affiliation.
Speaking on Saturday, Hassan said that Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi should ensure that anti-corruption efforts are applied across the entire country if the government is serious about tackling financial misconduct.
Hassan alleged that officials in both the federal government and the Kurdistan Region have been involved in mismanagement and corruption over the years, and he called for comprehensive investigations into all related cases.
He also criticized the handling of public-sector salaries in the Kurdistan Region, claiming that employees have lost the equivalent of more than 60 months of wages since 2014 through deductions and savings measures imposed by regional authorities.
According to Hassan, anti-corruption efforts should not be limited to Baghdad and other federal governorates but should also examine financial and administrative files within the Kurdistan Region.
He stressed the need for authorities to review all outstanding corruption cases and hold accountable anyone found responsible for misusing public funds.
