Iraq’s Nineveh Provincial Council has dismissed recent rumors questioning the safety of the Mosul Dam, stressing that the facility remains stable and is operating normally.
Provincial Council member Mohammed Jassim al-Kaka’i said all technical and engineering reports received by local authorities confirm that maintenance and grouting work inside the dam is continuing as planned. He stated that no issues or concerns have been identified regarding the stability of the dam’s foundations.
Al-Kaka’i described the recurring claims about potential risks to the dam as unfounded rumors that are not supported by evidence or official reports.
He noted that Mosul Dam is one of Iraq’s most important strategic infrastructure projects and plays a critical role in managing water resources within the Tigris River basin. Because of its national importance, the dam receives continuous attention from both local authorities in Nineveh and the federal government.
According to al-Kaka’i, engineering and technical teams continue to carry out grouting operations, a key maintenance process designed to strengthen the dam’s foundation and maintain its long-term stability. These efforts are being supported through cooperation with specialized international companies.
He also highlighted that water storage levels at the dam are among the highest recorded in recent years, reflecting normal operations and favorable conditions at the facility.
Al-Kaka’i emphasized that the safety of Mosul Dam remains a top priority for authorities and said there is currently no reason for public concern. He reiterated that ongoing monitoring, maintenance work, and engineering oversight continue to ensure the dam operates safely and efficiently.
Mosul Dam is Iraq’s largest dam and one of the country’s most strategically important water infrastructure assets, supplying water resources, supporting irrigation, and contributing to electricity generation in several regions.
