An electricity transmission line connecting Haditha and Baiji was cut after one of its towers was reportedly blown up, according to Saad Ghazi al-Mohammadi, head of the Security Committee at the Al-Anbar Provincial Council.
The incident happened just hours after Iraqi security forces successfully prevented another attack on a power transmission tower in the same area.
A security source said Iraqi forces stopped an ISIS attempt to target a transmission tower before the militants could reach it, preventing any damage to the infrastructure.
No casualties or property damage were reported in either incident.
The Baiji-Haditha corridor has been targeted several times in the past due to attacks on electricity infrastructure. Because of these repeated threats, Iraqi authorities have increased security measures along the route.
Security forces continue to monitor the area closely as ISIS cells remain active in some desert and rural regions of Saladin and Al-Anbar provinces.
The latest incidents highlight the ongoing challenges facing Iraq’s power infrastructure and the continued efforts by security forces to protect critical facilities from terrorist attacks.
