Bitget has upgraded its Bitcoin-backed token BGBTC, adding daily Bitcoin rewards, cross-chain functionality, and independent risk oversight in an effort to make Bitcoin holdings more productive for users.
Key Highlights
- BGBTC holders will now earn daily rewards paid in Bitcoin (BTC).
- The token remains backed by Bitcoin on a 1:1 basis.
- Chainlink CCIP will power cross-chain transfers and interoperability.
- Gauntlet will oversee the yield-generating strategies behind the product.
- Bitget says the upgrade also improves redemption speed, transparency, and risk management.
Daily Bitcoin Rewards for Holders
The biggest change is the introduction of daily BTC-denominated rewards.
BGBTC is designed to let users keep Bitcoin exposure while earning additional returns. Instead of holding BTC passively, users can receive rewards without having to sell their Bitcoin or move funds between multiple platforms.
Bitget says this creates a simpler experience for users who want yield while maintaining exposure to Bitcoin’s price movements.
More Than Just a Bitcoin Token
Within the Bitget ecosystem, BGBTC can already be used for several purposes, including:
- Futures trading margin
- Lending collateral
- Launchpool participation
- PoolX products
The exchange believes these features make BGBTC more flexible than simply holding Bitcoin in a wallet.
The latest upgrade also includes support for larger and faster redemptions, although Bitget has not yet disclosed specific limits or performance targets.
Cross-Chain Expansion Powered by Chainlink
Bitget has chosen Chainlink CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol) as the official infrastructure for moving BGBTC across different blockchain networks.
This means users will eventually be able to transfer and use BGBTC across multiple chains while maintaining exposure to the underlying Bitcoin-backed asset.
Bitget already uses Chainlink’s Proof of Reserve technology to verify that BGBTC remains fully backed by Bitcoin. With CCIP, the company is now adding cross-chain functionality alongside reserve verification.
However, Bitget has not yet released a full list of supported blockchains or a timeline for future integrations.
Gauntlet to Manage Risk Oversight
Bitget has also partnered with Gauntlet, a well-known crypto risk-management firm, to oversee the strategies that generate rewards for BGBTC holders.
Gauntlet’s role includes:
- Monitoring portfolio risk
- Reviewing yield strategies
- Evaluating capital allocation decisions
- Supporting long-term sustainability
While independent oversight can improve risk management, it does not remove investment risk. Reward levels can still fluctuate based on market conditions and the performance of underlying strategies.
What This Means for Bitcoin Investors
The upgraded BGBTC aims to combine three features in one product:
- Bitcoin price exposure
- Daily BTC rewards
- Cross-chain utility
In theory, users can earn additional Bitcoin while still using their holdings as collateral, trading margin, or capital within decentralized finance applications.
However, investors should remember that products like BGBTC introduce additional risks beyond simply holding Bitcoin. These can include:
- Platform risk
- Custody risk
- Smart contract risk
- Liquidity risk
- Yield strategy risk
Looking Ahead
The success of the upgraded BGBTC will depend on several factors:
- The competitiveness of its reward rate
- Redemption efficiency
- Adoption across multiple blockchains
- Transparency around yield generation
- User trust in the underlying risk controls
Bitget has not announced a fixed annual yield or a complete rollout schedule, so investors will be watching closely to see how the product performs after launch.
