MP Miqdad al-Khafaji said there is growing momentum in parliament to move forward with passing the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law.

He explained that the coming period could see real steps and coordination between political groups to place the law on the parliamentary agenda.

According to al-Khafaji, the law is important because it would officially secure the rights of PMF fighters and recognize their role. He said it would also help strengthen efforts to protect Iraq’s sovereignty.

He added that the Rights Movement is treating this law as a top priority and is working to push it forward.

Al-Khafaji also said there is strong determination inside parliament to overcome the political disagreements that delayed the law in the past. The goal is to give PMF members the same legal protections and benefits as other security forces.

He described the PMF as a key part of the country’s security system and said supporting its fighters—and the families of those killed or injured—requires clear and fair legislation.

In simple terms, the push is about turning long-standing promises into actual legal protections for those who served.
