Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s Foreign Minister, made the announcement that negotiations between the two countries to resolve unresolved issues would soon resume.
Hussein “received in Washington Barbara Leaf, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, where they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and joint cooperation between the two countries,” according to a copy of the Foreign Ministry’s statement. They also emphasized the significance of assisting displaced Lebanese and supporting efforts to end the humanitarian crisis, as well as the necessity of a ceasefire in the region and the resolution of crises through diplomatic means.”
The Assistant Secretary of State stated that she was completely in support of Iraq and the efforts made by the Iraqi government to contain the crises.
“addressing the issue of resolving the outstanding problems with the State of Kuwait and the necessity of returning to the negotiating table” were the terms used in the statement.
In this regard, the Iraqi Foreign Minister emphasized “Iraq’s true desire to reach understandings to resolve existing differences” and “the recent meetings in New York between the Iraqi and Kuwaiti delegations confirmed that dialogues are the right way to solve problems, and that they will begin in the near future.”
“The need for calm and for all parties to ensure that the circle of conflict in the Middle East does not expand, and to make the necessary efforts to end the conflict and spare the region the risk of escalation,” according to the statement, the two parties agreed on.
