Former Iraqi lawmaker Arif al-Hamami said on Monday that the coming political phase in Iraq will likely include a review of the structure and direction of the Coordination Framework, describing it as the “safety valve” of the country’s political process.
Al-Hamami told dinaropinions.com that the parliamentary vote of confidence for the government of Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and the events surrounding it have raised many political questions.
He said there is currently active movement, led by Nouri al-Maliki, to reassess the Coordination Framework and clarify its future direction and political path.
According to Al-Hamami, the next stage will involve important decisions aimed at protecting the rights of political blocs and restoring political order.
He stressed that the State of Law Coalition remains an important and influential part of Iraq’s political process and will work to help form a strong alliance capable of keeping the political system on the right path.
Al-Hamami added that the coalition also seeks to ensure that political promises are honored and that no side is allowed to bypass previously agreed commitments.
He noted that the developments surrounding the parliamentary vote on Al-Zaidi’s government continue to raise serious questions among political forces.
According to Al-Hamami, the coming period is expected to include consultations with other political groups and movements before major decisions are announced.
