Parliamentary Defense Committee: Parliament will not submit to external dictates regarding the Popular Mobilization Forces law.

Jawad al-Saadi, a member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, said on Sunday that external parties are putting pressure on Iraq’s Parliament to block or delay the passage of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law.

Al-Saadi told dinaropinions.com that the proposed law is facing challenges from outside interference aimed at preventing the completion of the legal and regulatory framework for the PMF. He said these efforts could deny PMF fighters their legal rights and protections.

He added that lawmakers are continuing their efforts to overcome these obstacles and move forward with the necessary legislative procedures.

Al-Saadi stressed that Parliament is serious about passing the law in recognition of the PMF’s role in protecting Iraq’s security and sovereignty. He also said Parliament would not accept outside pressure aimed at stopping the legislation.
