Robinhood is preparing to bring AI-powered trading to cryptocurrency investing, allowing eligible U.S. users to authorize artificial intelligence agents to execute crypto trades on their behalf.

The company announced the upcoming feature during a presentation on Friday, explaining that users will be able to connect third-party AI agents that can manage trades within limits and rules set by the account holder. While Robinhood did not provide an official launch date, it said the feature will first be introduced in the United States before expanding to customers in the United Kingdom.

According to Robinhood, the goal is to help investors automate trading decisions without giving up control. Users will be able to create trading strategies and establish predefined guardrails that AI agents must follow, reducing the need to constantly monitor market movements.

The crypto initiative builds on Robinhood’s earlier launch of AI-powered agentic accounts for stock and options traders. The company revealed that more than 70,000 agentic accounts have already been created since the beta program began in late May, suggesting strong interest in automated investing tools.

Robinhood said its platform can work with AI models from several providers, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Grok. The company is also exploring broader uses for AI agents beyond investing. For example, eligible customers may eventually be able to authorize AI systems to make purchases using their credit cards under specific conditions.

Company executives believe AI agents can help everyday investors respond more quickly to market opportunities and access sophisticated tools that have traditionally been available mainly to institutional traders.

The announcement comes as Robinhood continues expanding its blockchain and crypto infrastructure.

A major part of that strategy is Robinhood Chain, the company’s Ethereum-based layer-2 network built on Arbitrum technology. Since launching on July 1, the network has experienced rapid growth.

According to Robinhood, the blockchain processed approximately 17 million transactions from nearly 350,000 wallet addresses during its first week. Data from DeFiLlama shows that the network’s total value locked (TVL) has surpassed $115 million, while daily trading volume on Uniswap reached around $500 million, making it one of the most active blockchain networks outside Ethereum itself.

The network has also attracted significant amounts of Ethereum. Analytics platform Token Terminal reported that Robinhood Chain received more than $70 million worth of bridged ETH during its first week, suggesting growing demand for the ecosystem and its tokenized finance products.

The broader concept of AI-driven financial activity is gaining attention across the crypto industry. Executives from companies such as Coinbase and Circle have predicted that AI agents could become major users of blockchain payment networks in the future.

Several projects are already experimenting with the technology. Amazon Web Services recently integrated Coinbase’s x402 payment protocol into its AI infrastructure, allowing AI agents to make payments using USDC. Meanwhile, crypto wallet company Oobit launched a Visa-backed virtual card designed to let AI systems make business purchases using USDT.

Despite growing interest, adoption remains relatively small. Industry data shows that blockchain payment activity generated by AI agents is still limited, indicating that the sector remains in its early stages.

Even so, Robinhood’s latest announcement highlights the growing convergence of artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and automated finance. If adoption continues to expand, AI-powered trading could become a major new feature for retail investors in the years ahead.
