Ibrahim Al-Sakini, a member of the State of Law Coalition, has called on leaders of the Coordination Framework to take a strong stand against any foreign influence in Iraq’s political process, particularly regarding the formation of the next government.
Al-Sakini said the current situation requires all political parties, especially the Coordination Framework, to unite in rejecting any regional or international efforts to interfere in Iraq’s internal affairs or influence decisions about the new government.
He stressed that the process of forming a government and selecting cabinet members should be an Iraqi decision alone, guided by the country’s national interests and carried out within constitutional rules. According to him, outside pressure and political agendas from foreign powers should have no role in shaping Iraq’s future government.
Al-Sakini warned that failing to address foreign interference could weaken Iraq’s sovereignty and lead to a repeat of political disputes and crises that the country has faced in the past.
He also said the Iraqi public expects the Coordination Framework to take practical steps to protect the country’s independence, strengthen stability, and quickly resolve outstanding political disagreements. He emphasized the importance of reaching agreements on government programmes that respond to citizens’ needs and tackle the challenges facing the country.
His comments come after former MP Yasser Al-Husseini recently warned that foreign powers, particularly the United States, could take advantage of political divisions to influence Iraq’s decision-making process and affect the formation of the next government.
