Security authorities have launched an urgent investigation after two billion Iraqi dinars were discovered at a checkpoint in eastern Maysan Governorate.
According to a security source, officers at a central checkpoint near Qal’at Saleh district stopped a vehicle for inspection. During the search, they found two billion dinars in the possession of one of the occupants.
The driver was immediately detained, and the money was seized while authorities began looking into the source of the funds and the reasons for transporting such a large amount of cash.
The source said an emergency investigation committee has been formed to examine the case and determine where the money came from and who actually owns it. Officials are treating the situation seriously because of the questions and suspicions surrounding the funds.
Investigators are still working to gather information, and authorities expect more details to emerge in the coming hours. An official statement may be issued once the investigation reaches clearer conclusions.
The source also dismissed rumors circulating on social media that the money belonged to a politician or government official. He stressed that no such connection has been confirmed and that the investigation remains ongoing.
