Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mohammed Al-Shammari, said the draft 2027 federal budget law will undergo detailed technical review and auditing once it is officially submitted by the Ministry of Finance and the government to the Iraqi Parliament.
Al-Shammari explained that the Finance Committee will carefully examine all budget schedules, allocations and spending items to ensure they align with Iraq’s economic conditions and the requirements of service and development projects.
He noted that the review process is a key constitutional and oversight responsibility of Parliament and is necessary before the budget can be presented for voting.
According to Al-Shammari, the detailed study of the budget should not be viewed as an obstacle to its approval. He said the current political environment is favorable, with parliamentary blocs showing a willingness to cooperate and complete any required technical amendments through consensus.
He added that existing political understandings between the parties are expected to help the budget move smoothly through Parliament and reduce the chances of major disagreements.
Al-Shammari expressed confidence that the reading, discussion and approval stages of the 2027 budget will proceed without significant disputes or political crises that could delay its passage.
The comments suggest that lawmakers expect a relatively smooth legislative process once the government formally submits the budget draft for parliamentary consideration.
