Iraqi customs authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle $83,000 through Baghdad International Airport, according to a statement issued by the General Authority of Customs on Sunday.
The authority said an Iraqi traveler tried to bring the money into the country without officially declaring it, in violation of customs regulations.
The undeclared cash was discovered during a detailed inspection of baggage in the arrivals hall at Baghdad International Airport. Customs officers identified the funds during routine screening procedures and immediately took action.
Following the discovery, legal measures were taken against the traveler and the seized money in accordance with Iraqi laws and regulations governing the movement of cash across borders.
The General Authority of Customs said the operation is part of its ongoing efforts to prevent smuggling activities, enforce financial regulations, and protect the national economy from illegal transactions.
Authorities continue to strengthen inspections at border crossings and airports as part of wider measures aimed at combating smuggling and improving oversight of financial movements into and out of the country. dollars
