Iraq’s Ministry of Construction and Housing has announced the temporary opening of the Hamrin Lake Bridge in Diyala to traffic.

The move is meant to help citizens cross the area more easily after rising water levels damaged the old dam road.

Officials said the bridge was opened as a temporary solution to keep traffic moving and reduce pressure on alternative routes. A special diversion has also been set up to manage entry and exit safely.

The bridge is one of the longest in Iraq, with a total length of 7.75 km. Around 3 km is the main bridge, while the rest consists of access الطرق leading to it.

Construction is now about 90% complete. Most of the main structural work is done, and what’s left includes road paving, safety barriers, lighting, and road signs.

This bridge is an important link. It connects central and southern Iraq with the northern regions and also plays a key role in trade and travel toward Iran through the Al-Mundhiriya border crossing.

In simple terms, opening the bridge— even temporarily—helps keep people and goods moving while the final work is completed.
