OPEC Secretary General visits Baghdad

During the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haitham Al-Ghais’s official visit to the Iraqi capital, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with him.

Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s commitment to the overall policies and strategies of OPEC, particularly in relation to oil production and OPEC+-based decisions.

Iraq contributes significantly to the stability of the global oil market as one of the largest members of the organization that exports oil. Al-Sudani emphasized that Iraq is still committed to ensuring that OPEC’s efforts are successful.

Al-Ghais stated, “During this visit, Iraq presented clear and determined steps to compensate for overproduced volumes and promised that it would achieve full conformity in the future.”

Al-Ghais conferred with Iraq’s Minister of Oil and Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Hayan Abdul Ghani Abdul-Zahra, earlier this week. The current state of the oil market and the significance of ongoing DoC-country cooperation were the main topics of discussion at their meeting. Both leaders emphasized Iraq’s dedication to the prompt implementation of production adjustments and compensation plans, both of which are crucial to maintaining market equilibrium.

Al-Ghais stated, “It is always a great pleasure to return to Iraq, a founding member of OPEC and the birthplace of our Organization.” I got solid affirmations that Iraq keeps on being completely dedicated to the DoC’s continuous market adjustment endeavors.”

These meetings show how important Iraq is to OPEC and how it continues to work together to keep the global oil market stable.
