Member of Parliament Qusay Abbas confirmed that the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Law remains one of the top priorities for Parliament during the current legislative session.
Abbas said the law is among the most important long-delayed legislations that lawmakers are trying to pass in the coming phase of parliamentary work.
He explained that the oil and gas law has remained unresolved through several previous parliamentary sessions despite its importance to Iraq’s economy and energy sector.
According to Abbas, there is strong parliamentary interest in finally approving the law during the next stage of the current session, alongside several other important pending laws.
He also pointed to other draft laws related to human rights that are currently being reviewed by specialized parliamentary committees and are expected to move forward in the coming period.
Abbas stressed that many important laws have been delayed for years and carried over from previous sessions, but there is now growing political and parliamentary willingness to pass them.
