The Parliamentary Committee on Electricity and Energy said that the seizure of 300 smuggled electrical transformers came after direct monitoring and follow-up by the committee as part of its oversight and legislative duties.
In a statement, the committee said it had sent an official letter to the Ministry of Electricity on April 27, 2026, requesting full details about the case and calling for the necessary legal and administrative actions in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The committee said it is still waiting for the final investigation results and ongoing procedures to reveal the full details of the case and identify everyone involved.
It stressed that the main goal is to protect public funds and safeguard Iraq’s electricity sector from corruption and illegal activities.
The committee also confirmed that it will continue monitoring electricity and energy files closely and warned that it has zero tolerance for corruption or smuggling cases that harm state infrastructure and public resources.
