Forbes Magazine: America seeks to dominate the energy sector in Iraq

Forbes, an economics-focused American publication, reported on Tuesday that the new Iraqi Prime Minister, who is in support of the business community, is working to accelerate efforts by the American government and multinational corporations to dominate the Iraqi energy sector.

According to the report, which was translated by, “American companies like Translantic Petroleum, KBR, Emerson, Baker Hughes, and Genel Energy are seeking to acquire and develop gas fields in the Ibn Umar River area in southern Iraq” An accompanying facility for exporting liquefied natural gas near Basra is included in the project and could be operational within the next decade.

He added, “The ultimate American goal, in addition to producing natural gas from Iraq, building electrical infrastructure, and providing surplus energy, is to prevent energy cooperation with the Iranian side.” According to Wilkie, who is an authority on foreign policy and military strategies, expanding Iraq’s energy sector is a larger effort to guarantee American stability and national security in the Middle East.

He stated, “Weakening cooperation between Iraq and Iran requires more than just energy independence for Iraq.” It includes increasing the energy dominance of the United States to eliminate the need for nations to rely on Russian natural gas or Iranian oil.

Wilkie emphasized, “When Trump left office, we were working on the Saudis, which brought the Saudis closer to an anti-Iranian ring that included Israel with US support.” However, “things have changed a lot now, especially since the war in Gaza.”
