MP Jassim Al-Attiya said Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has approved importing additional gas to help cover shortages and support Iraq’s energy needs.

According to Al-Attiya, the approval includes 5,000 tons of gas from Qatar and the UAE, aimed at easing supply gaps and meeting demand in the local market, especially for power plants that depend on gas.

He said the move is meant to help keep supplies steady and prevent possible fuel shortages, while authorities have already started logistical steps to bring in the shipments as quickly as possible.

The decision comes as Iraq continues working to strengthen energy supplies and manage growing demand.
