An Iraqi lawmaker is warning that the country could face a financial crisis as soon as next month.
MP Hussein Mounis said ongoing conflicts in the Middle East are putting global energy flows at risk—and that could directly hit Iraq’s economy.
He explained that any disruption or instability in oil supply could put heavy pressure on the country’s budget and revenues.
Mounis stressed that Iraq won’t be spared from these effects, especially since it depends heavily on oil income.
He urged the government to act quickly and take precautionary steps now, so people’s daily lives are not affected later.
He also called on political leaders and the incoming government to treat the financial situation as a top priority, given the growing challenges in the region.
